CORE Kidz Coming Soon To Caldicot

Caldicot Town Team, who run CORE in Caldicot Town centre are soon to bring a new exciting and engaging experience to the unit, Introducing CORE Kidz. Read on to find out more.

CORE has been open in Caldicot Town Centre since November 2022 and is located in the old Store 21 unit (Kwiksave for those with good memories!) The unit is run entirely by volunteers and supports local and independent businesses in its indoor market style setting. However a new venture is about to start in the unit and the team being it are really excited and looking forward to getting it off the ground.

CORE Kidz is the new name of this particular project, which will see an old storage room in the rear of the unit be transformed into a safe space for young people (and those big kids!) who love to skate. A new skate-ramp half-pipe is being built currently and is hoped to be up and running by the school holidays, scroll down to take a look at this incredible piece of kit!

This amazing skate-ramp will provide a safe space for young people to use during evenings and weekends. Alongside the indoor skate ramp Caldicot Town Team are including sofa’s, internal charging points and even TV’s and games consoles. Caldicot Town Team are also planning to go one step further with an outdoor seating area for young people to enjoy at their leisure. With plans for external USB ports and outside charging points young people will have a safe area to spend their time meeting with mates, but will be close enough to the town centre so they can enjoy the facilities.

Caldicot Town Team are aware that some local residents and businesses may be concerned with anti-social behaviour that does take place in the town, however we hope to help to combat this by providing an area that young people can take ownership of, a place to call their own and a place where they can spend time without bothering visitors to the town centre.

The project is strongly based on young people respecting and taking ownership of the area, nowhere else in South Monmouthshire are providing these facilities and we know from young people we have spoken to that they are excited to see this project succeed.

Both the indoor skate ramp and the external areas are covered by CCTV and responsible persons will always be on site when the skate room is open. While timings are not yet set, we are planning to be open between 6pm & 8pm specific weeknights and afternoon/evenings on the weekends.

This is a really exciting project and one that Caldicot Town Team hopes all local residents, businesses and visitors see this as a positive step towards providing more facilities for young people.

Caldicot Town Team have had a huge amount of help from Caldicot School Yr 10’s in painting, cleaning and decorating the unit to make is as welcoming and accessible as possible for all. If you would like to get involved with the project we do call in and see us in CORE, or visit our website and social media to make contact with the team.
